5 Ways to Elevate Your Team
Are you tired of being on teams where time and resources are wasted because team members don’t collaborate well? Is there conflict and competition on your team that hinders progress? Do you feel like your team is not living up to their potential?
Too many teams experience this problem. Great teams are meant to take us further than we could go alone and enable us to reach greater levels of creativity, productivity, adaptability, etc. For many people, the pain of working with a team can even outweigh its benefits.
How do we change this? How do leaders create an environment that enables teams to thrive — to adapt, mature, learn, and consistently raise the standard?
One key is to activate the five qualities of a healthy and thriving team culture that are defined in the MPACT Assessment. The assessment identifies each person’s unique expression across five quotients.
When you’re able to activate each person’s expression, your team will work better together to accomplish their goals.
The word ‘activate’ is intentional because these expressions do not need to be learned. They are not external principles that you need to train your team to implement. These 5 quotients are expressed in different measures by all individuals and teams. We aren’t talking about bringing in something new but simply identifying and activating what’s already there.
In fact, these are behaviors they may already be doing. But if your team is not flourishing (i.e., your team is unable to effectively solve problems, they’re experiencing conflict, or they’re missing milestones) — chances are, these five quotients have not been fully activated, and your team is not reaching their full potential.
What are the 5 MPACT Quotients?
Mentoring.
This quotient is all about relationships & community. Team members with high Mentoring are naturally empathetic and social. They recognize the importance of strong relationships and bring a sense of camaraderie, community, and care to the team.
People with high Mentoring are crucial to the team’s success because they encourage team members to value and empathize with one another, creating a culture of unity and mutual respect.
Pioneering.
This quotient is all about mission & movement. Team members with high Pioneering are naturally visionary and strategic. As natural entrepreneurs and risk-takers, they bring the catalytic energy necessary to mobilize people and resources.
People with high Pioneering are crucial to team success because they create a mission-focused culture that overcomes challenges quickly and keeps the team on track.
Aligning.
This quotient is all about purpose & meaning. Team members with high Aligning are naturally principled and values-focused. They align the team with its higher purpose and ensure the team is operating by ethics and shared values.
People with high Aligning are crucial to team success because they create a culture of authenticity and accountability that anchors the team to something greater.
Championing.
This quotient is all about connection & cause. Team members with high Championing naturally build rapport, passionately communicate the team’s message, and proactively include others.
People with high Championing are crucial to team success because they make connections that help the team’s message reach more people and they instill confidence in the team with their positivity and enthusiasm.
Teaching.
This quotient is all about continuous learning & legacy. Team members with high Teaching seek to understand what makes the team successful so they can ensure key information is captured and shared with the team.
People with high Teaching are crucial to team success because they set the foundations needed for the team to sustain their success, and they ensure lessons learned are not lost.
For teams to be more successful, each of these contributions must be present, and they must be understood, respected, and received by the team.
When team members understand their own MPACT expression and the MPACT expression of those around them, they will be able to see why they are needed on the team and why they need others. They will be able to collaborate better by contributing from their strengths and partnering with others who will complement them and round out their perspective.
When team member contributions are respected, the team will be equipped to better resolve conflict and work through differences that may be challenging.
As each person’s contribution is received by the team, the team will be more diverse in their perspectives, and it will be greater than the sum of its parts. Team members will be excited and empowered to elevate the people around them.
Everyone deserves to be part of a flourishing team that’s making an impact. If you want to experience this culture on your team, start by taking the MPACT Assessment!
